Finally replaced the control arms on the Legacy GT. This ball joint did not want to leave it s home in the steering knuckle. Ended up taking the knuckle off the car and putting a new wheel bearing on because , you know, while you got it apart...

Removing pressed balljoint is a PITA always. I have to say I kinda like the bolt on ones VW is fond of.

This is pressed in there AND has a bolt (which snapped). It was a nightmare, probably should have just bought a new knuckle.

Sometimes it’s worth it to buy everything assembled. I did that when  I replaced my wheel bearing. I bought refurbished knuckles with the bearing pressed in. Which saved me a lot of headache.
